    Position Description:

    Two Harbors and Granite Point are seeking a Tax Manager to join our team.  This position will report to our Controller and be responsible for a variety of tax accounting assignments focusing on residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), mortgage servicing rights (MSR), commercial real estate (CRE) mortgage loans, and derivative instruments.  A successful candidate must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. 



    • Review monthly taxable income work papers and account reconciliations.
    • Perform tax accounting internal control testing and improve tax methodology documentation.
    • Prepare and review federal and state tax filings, estimate tax payments, and notice/audit responses.
    • Build and maintain taxable income forecasts to analyze portfolio changes and dividend distribution requirements.
    • Create transaction analysis decks using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Build relationships across corporate departments and mentor team of two Senior Tax Accountants.
    • Perform tax research using BNA, draft tax memorandums outlining proposed tax positions, and work with outside accounting and law firms on tax matters.


    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related degree required, Master’s degree in accounting, taxation, or relevant degree preferred.
    • CPA preferred.
    • Five to six years of experience preferred, preferably in a financial services firm or public accounting.
    • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
    • Willingness to learn and use accounting software.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, high energy, team player.
    • Ability to independently complete multiple time-sensitive tasks.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information.
