Position Description:

We are seeking an Internal Audit & SOX Manager to develop and execute the Internal Audit Plan, including SOX program, for both Two Harbors and Granite Point.  This position reports administratively to the Chief Accounting Officer and functionally to the Audit Committee of the companies’ Board of Directors.  A successful candidate must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.



  • Perform annual risk assessment to identify emerging risks and changes in existing risks to incorporate in the Internal Audit Plan.
  • SOX Compliance:
    • Maintain SOX documentation including process flows and risk and control matrices
    • Prepare planning memo and scoping documents
    • Facilitate walkthroughs with process owners and external auditors
    • Prepare/update test plans
    • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting on behalf of management and support the external auditors in their testing, and
    • Provide guidance and instruction on SOX methodology across organization.
  • Evaluate the systems established to ensure compliance with policies, plans, procedures, laws, and regulations which could have a significant impact on the organization.
  • Evaluate operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and whether the operations or programs are being carried out as planned and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform risk assessment over change management initiatives (e.g. system implementations, new business strategies, etc.) to determine whether changes to people, process, or technology result in the need for new or updated controls.
  • Perform annual assessment of controls relating to compliance with Graham-Leach-Bliley Act.
  • Perform annual independent controls testing of mortgage compliance program.
  • Work cross functionally with teams across organization to drive internal control related initiatives.
  • Report periodically to management and the Audit Committee on internal audit’s activities, purpose, responsibility, and performance relative to its plan.
  • Report significant risk exposures and control issues, including fraud risks, governance issues, and other matters needed or requested by the Audit Committee.


  • The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus eight (8) to ten (10) years progressive post-baccalaureate experience in an auditor position or related occupation.
  • Prefer post-graduate certification designation such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and/or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
  • Experience managing and performing SOX, operational, and compliance audits, including business processes and information technology.
  • Experience executing internal audit plans including managing staff and contractor resources.
  • Experience in financial services industry.
  • Understanding of IT controls and change management processes.
  • Experience with flowcharting software (i.e. Visio).
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and multi-task within time constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Results oriented and proactive work style.
  • Ability to network and collaborate cross-functionally.
